I really love geography. Nerdy, I know, but there is something about a map that is super exciting.
Today while being depressed about the weather here, I decided to look up what it was like exactly south of the equator, from where we are. The closest piece of land is the country of Chili and I picked out the city of Temuco. This was still depressing for me because it is close to 80 degrees there. In Lexington we are looking at a crisp high of 23 degrees and 3 to 4 inches of snow.
So, today I am going to learn about Temuco, Chili. Why the fuck not.
38° 1′ 47″ N, 84° 29′ 41″ W Lexington, KY
38° 44′ 0″ S, 72° 40′ 0″ W Temuco, Chili
Temuco, Chili
Fact:
Thanks wikipedia, for teaching me.

Temuco, Chili
Fact:
- Turns out this city is is near lake resorts so it is a tourist destination.
- It is surrounded by forests so it is great for crops and fruits.
- During the warmest months it is around 75 degrees and in the 40's in the colder months
- There are around 245,347people here. 5% live in rural areas, the rest in the city.
- The Mapuche culture makes up 23% of the population and German immigrants make up close to 10%
- It is the largest city in Chili with indigenous presence.
- Temuco was hit by the earthquake of 2010 pretty hard, they are still recovering from the damages
- Driving seams like a disaster there. Most people just take the bus or a taxi.
It seems like a cool place to go. They have mad palm trees and it looks like some pretty cool people call it home. Maybe I just need a vacay, or to go back to school.

I love reading random, but interesting facts about things. I once read Wikipedias page about the plastic industry. I still surprise people with the odd fact now and then.
ReplyDeleteYou guys make me laugh every day... and now I'm learning random shit too. Love it! Hugs. - Nicki
